My son thinks that he is Batman, and who am I to burst his bubble… We didn’t throw him a big birthday party this year because we are taking him & his g-bro to DISNEYLAND!!! I don’t know who’s more excited, me or him! We had a small dinner on his birthday and I made him a cool batman cake. The whole time I was making it, my lil booger butt was critiquing it... “No mommy I want him to be blue”, “Where’s his head?”, “Batman doesn’t kiss, and his lips aren’t PINK!” "SOMEONE GET THIS KID AWAY FROM ME! LOL!"But at the end of the day he was thrilled with his cake. I decided to give you a little sneak peak of how I created his cake and some TIPS on making any type of cake… First, I always start off with a sketch. Some people dont do sketches but I work faster and better when I have a game plan... it doesnt have to be a fancy sketch. Mine are always chicken scratch, sometimes I add color so I know exactly what I'm doing. Once you bake everything, fill with whatever filling your little heart desires, you’re ready to frost. You want to make sure that your final coat is as smooth as you can get it and the corners are sharp and clean. This all come with practice. Make sure you don’t a crumb coat first, let chill in fridge for about 20 minutes! (Don’t skip this step it is very important!)Then do the final coat and its best to let the cakes chill overnight in the fridge. The hardder the frosting is, the BETTER to get a nice clean fondant cover. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to sculpt with rice crispy treats! It’s so much fun. It’s pretty time consuming, but well worth the work. After you sculpt your object (in this case it’s Batman’s Head) Frost it and start decorating with Fondant. I ended up shaving down his ears because he looked more like a Dog lol. After you add your fondant, your now able to make impressions for his facial expressions. (hey that rhymed!) Be sure to do it right after you apply the fondant, while it’s still soft. If you wait too long the fondant will start drying, cracking, it’ll look like elephant skin and it’s a hot mess! And below is the final cake! Walahh! And heres my birthday boy with his cake! He's so big, when his Daddy told him he's getting older, he said "Yup and I'm gonna get taller!"

The holiday season makes me feel all warm and gooshy inside! It brings out my inner cornball and I get to drive my family crazy. I love spending time with my familia! It’s great to get to have them all under one roof. I was really busy this week trying to help mi Ma get ready for thanksgiving and my lil mans birthday dinner. I didn’t get to take many pictures but I took a few snapshots playing with depth of field of random things around my mamas house.
I could say my wedding was perfect, but that would be a fib. Nothing is perfect and its a good thing I prepared myself. I thought as long as my groom shows up I’ll be good, I totally underestimated how much goes into a wedding. No matter how much you think you prepared, you can’t control whether or not other people do their jobs! There were a few kinks throughout the day, but if I look beyond the technical difficulties it was amazing! Our whole families were together for the first time in 8 years. We were surrounded by so much love and support. There were many speeches that reminded me of how lucky I was to be marrying such an amazing man! So this post is long overdue… I want to thank the people who made my wedding a whole lot easier for me. First, my husband Jack for being very cooperative and patient through this whole process. He kept reminding me what was really important, which helped me stay grounded. It’s so easy to float off into la la land and want this super fancy wedding. Second, is our family and friends, they went over and beyond to help and support us along the way! They helped set up and even stayed after the wedding to help take down the decorations & tables, which was totally awesome! We are so blessed to have amazing people around us, you are all appreciated! My hair dresser Claudia Lomelin (lil Red) was awesome! She did an amazing job and my hair came out exactly how I wanted it! Thank you so much for remaining calm, your aura totally soothed me lol. She’s definitely someone you want to contact if you need your hair done! Our minister totally Rocked! He was so easy to work with and went over and beyond to make sure our day was perfect! He even went on his own to find our best man & maid of honor to have them sign our marriage license, while Jack & I were off taking photos. I don’t have his website but you can click on his name to contact him Minister Dave. We can’t forget about our friend who we hired to be our wedding singer- Paul Black! He was awesome! He really added a nice touch to our special day! You should really go pro! Thanks to Celeste & her 2nd shooter Amber for photographing our wedding, the photos came out great! Also thanks to my family and friends who sent me photos that they took. I really appreciate it! Our friend Melissa Dunn made our wedding cake! Not only was it beautiful but it tasted delicious, thanks for saving the day! She makes Fancy desserts contact me if you want her info. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE!!! If I were to do it all over again, I’d not stress over anything and keep everything simple! It went by super-fast! My all time favorite bird is of course the Hummingbird, I get super excited when I get to see them!!! I was fast enough to snap few photos of one while it was eating! I've never seen a place so fresh and peaceful before... we took a field trip to the Arboretum Botanical Garden and it was BEAUTIFUL. I felt like I had died and entered the Paradise. There were so many cool looking plants, flowers, and birds. My lil man went along with me and he had fun chasing the geese around. He argued with me that they were ducks. He was dying to touch the peacocks. Overall it was a nice peaceful day and I’d love to go back with a couple for a photo session.
By now all of my guests should have received their thank you cards. So here they are… let me know if you want me to make you some for your events lol… all you need to supply are the photos. *** Thanks to Celeste & Amber for supplying these photos from my wedding. |
