I spent the last few months of m pregnancy preparing for Maxx’s newborn shoot. I had all the little outfits, baskets, hats, guitars,… you name it I had it!
In the corner by the window was a little studio setup. The cushion was in place. The Heater on. White noise playing in the background. And I had a 6 day old sleeping baby! I thought it would be a synch since I was successful photographing my niece who was 10 days old. I heard that the younger the baby, the better the session! Let me just put this on record that I am NOT A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER! It was everything BUT a synch! He was the wiggliest worm! He peed on the cute hats. He refused to go on his belly. And the second that I thought he was in a deep sleep he would wake u crying! I had a minor anxiety attack! No lie! I realized that I don’t have the patience posing babies lol. I attempted it two days in a row and no shebang! I realized if I was gonna get any newborn photos of my baby, it was going to have to be more of a lifestyle session. A natural environment. So I threw a white onesie on Maxx and a white t-shirt on lil Jack and threw them in my freshly made bed! The moments that I got of my two sons were better than any vision I had imaged id get with him in a basket! (Don’t Get me wrong, I adore the baby in basket photos). Before I share all the photos with you, Im going to show my favorites that I chose for his birth announcements! So without further ado… here it is!!!

I'M JANELLE MARINA
Wife, Mama Shark, + Photographer. Most days, you'll find me in mismatched socks and a top knot, working behind my computer with a smile on my face, listening to Zac Brown Band and R&B --or, dancing in the kitchen with my 3 littles and hunka husband, seeing who could come up with the coolest dance moves. I'm a wedding photographer, West Elm lover, aspiring advocate for our buddies with special needs, and a Certified Dreamer since 1986. We live in a cozy city in Southern California and are always up for a good adventure. I enjoy telling stories with my camera, grubbing on spicy food, and solving the latest Dateline case.
