Newborn Session Information
When is the best time to book a session?
Newborn Photography sessions are best booked in the middle of your second trimester. Newborn Sessions should be booked at least 6-8 weeks in advance as only a limited numbers of newborns are scheduled each month to insure I am free to accommodate them all within the needed time frame once they arrive. The best time to book is always before your baby is here. Newborn Sessions take place indoors Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, as weekends are booked prior with different types of sessions!
What time do you book your sessions?
I am a natural light studio photographer, so I work around the sun and must schedule studio sessions in the morning-early afternoon for the best window light.
How old should my newborn be for the session?
Newborn Sessions are best when your infant is within the first 7-20 days of birth. It is so easy in the excitement of bringing home a brand new baby to forget or let the time pass you by, but timing is really critical in scheduling your newborn session.
I ask that my clients let me know within 3 days of your babies birth to ensure getting you on the schedule within those first precious days of your new babies life.
Does the session fee include family/sibling pictures?
Of course! In every session, immediate family ( parents and siblings) are always included upon request.
Extended family not included in sessions at this time.
Do I need to bring props to the session?
No need to bring a thing to the session except your newborn! Everything needed for the session to take place, is right here at the studio. If you do have any family heirlooms, or anything you would like to have photographed for the session, please do bring it with you so we can include it within your session.
Where do the sessions take place?
Newborn Photography Sessions are scheduled in a natural light studio near Chino Hills, Ca. Designed for complete comfort for your family and optimal natural lighting to achieve light and airy images.
All materials and props needed for the newborn photoshoot to take place are provided at the studio.
Can we take our Newborn Photos Outside?
All Newborn Sessions are done inside where it is nice and warm for the babies to remain comfortable and sleepy.
Can you tell me a little bit more about your style of newborn photography?
I love to work with natural, light and earthy tones, without an overuse of props, giving your newborn photoshoot a timeless and organic look. I combine standard portraiture with lifestyle to achieve a unique and personal touch to your images.
I do not pose any unnatural or forced poses with newborn babies.
My priority is to keep your baby comfortable at all times, no diaper-less babies here.
What is required of me for a newborn session?
Nothing but your baby! I DO NOT require that you withhold any feedings from your baby for any time prior to our session or keep them awake prior to our session. Rather- I like to schedule around when you have noticed any clues to when your baby feeds. Most newborns at that young age do not have a set schedule, but we can still work around them. These are such delicate sessions, and to be handled with the upmost care. That means, the same goes with meeting the needs of your baby regardless of any pictures.
I do ask that you just bring an extra set of clothes to go home in, accidents could happen in between pictures!
How long will our session take place?
Most newborn sessions are done between 1- 1.5 hours, but sometimes can take a bit longer. It is always good to plan for the full 2 hour session time. Newborn photography is very delicate in nature, so these sessions tend to take longer than all other baby portrait sessions.
Can you come to my home for a newborn session?
At this time I am not offering newborn sessions in-home, just in studio.
When will we get to see our pictures from a session?
Your images from your session will be presented in a private online gallery 3 weeks after your session date, ready for you to download. Your gallery will be available for you to view and share with whoever you like!
Are the images retouched?
Yes, all images you will be presented with are always retouched and edit.
Am I able to purchase digital files from my newborn session?
Yes! We live in a digital age, and I value my clients desires to obtain digital files from their session. When purchasing the digital files I will provide you with a list of recommended printers to get the most of your images.
Can my Pet be in the session?
Although I love and appreciate your furry family members of the family, due to potential allergy and sanitary precautions for all my clients, pets are not allowed to participate in studio sessions.
How to prepare for your session...
How do I prepare my newborn?
- We will want your newborn sleepy for the entire session, that is how we accomplish those cute and cuddly sleepy photos, so having your newborn in that “ milk drunk” state with a full belly, is exactly how we will want to get started. Please DO NOT withhold any feedings from your baby prior to our session, instead we will work closely together in determining a good time based on any feeding schedule if one already established. It is very important your baby gets a full tummy prior to the beginning of the session so we can spend the most time taking pictures during your session. - During the session, we may take a nursing or bottle break, make sure to bring an extra bottle if you are bottle feeding if the baby should get hungry and needs a break.
- I keep the studio nice and warm during the session to ensure the comfort of the baby, since they are photographed nearly nude! You know that means as adults, we will be very warm! Make sure to bring short sleeves to wear when you are not being photographed, so you are comfortable!
- There is no need for clothing in the newborn session. but do bring an extra plain onesie for some family portraits, and an outfit to leave home in.
I will be doing most the work. You did all the work getting the baby here, so it is your time to sit back, watch, and enjoy the process! On occasion, I will need help with propping your little one for certain poses, which may require a little help from either Mom or Dad. At all times, a parent will need to be present at the session with your newborn and myself during the photoshoot.
Should we include ourselves in some photos?
Yes! I know women don’t usually feel their best after just giving birth, but these photos are so special to have. I can work wonders with dark circles from any sleepless nights, and make sure to pose you in a flattering way. If you do want family photos, pick out simple clothes and make sure your hands are manicured as they will be in pictures. I will be happy to take pictures of any siblings with the new baby as well! ( Please note, extended family pictures are not included nor permitted in your session - IE, grandparents, cousins, aunts. etc).
If parents are going to be in the pictures, what should we wear?
Wardrobe is key in a photo session, and it should be deemed important to make the best of your investment. That is why we will work closely together in helping you feel confident and prepared by picking out the best outfit. I love dresses in sessions, and recommend all my clients to wear them. Here is a Pinterest Board for "What To Wear" to give you some ideas. Simple colors like creams, greys, pastels, light tones, work great for these light and airy sessions. I ask my clients to stay away from black and bold colors, as they can stand out in a non flattering way in the images. No need to dress up if you don't want to, dress comfortable and like yourself. T-Shirts and khakis pants look great for men, and a maxi dress for women. When in doubt, bring a few options to the studio for us to decide from!
When will we get to proof our pictures?
Within 3-4 weeks from your session, your images will be ready on an online gallery for you to order.
*Due to the nature of newborn photography sick siblings/parents will not be allowed in the studio during the session out of protection for all my newborn clients coming in.
