Checking off #92 from my 100 Goals in 1000 days list is Sending out Thank You Gifts to Photogs who've helped me :)
Treat others how you'd like to be treated! One thing I noticed about photography is most people are so willing to help you. Whether its giving advice on forums or allowing you to assist or even second shoot for them! This is totally different from the cake world! Most bakeries are very secretive & not willing to give any advice even if you’re not in their competitive area! Not so sweet! Luckily people are way nicer in this industry! I've been so blessed to have met these wonderful photographers Hannah, Susi, Larry, Abbey, Marina, and Lucy; who’ve allowed me to assist & second shoot for them! I am eternally grateful for all of your help! It's so important to second shoot for other photographers; not only to build up your portfolio, but to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! And did I mention PRACTICE! No one is going to hire a new photographer who doesn't have any weddings under their belt (as my dad would say). Unless you’re doing it for free, but even then you don't want to ruin anyone's wedding photos! Since we wrapped up 2012’s wedding season I wanted to end it by showing my appreciation to those that have helped me along the way. I mailed them a Starbucks gift card with a hand written note thanking them for believing in me and allowing me to be apart of their team for the day! I only wish i could send more but Im nowhere near Ballin! :) I couldn’t forget about the lovely ladies who second shot for me... so of course I had to send them one as well! I know that I wouldn't have been able to shoot any of my weddings without the support & assistance of Katy, Diane, Crystal, & Abbey! It’s great to give my fellow ambitious photographers a chance to build their portfolio & practice along with me! I appreciate each one of them!
I will be touching more on choosing the second shooter thats right for you in another blog post later on :)

I'M JANELLE MARINA
Wife, Mama Shark, + Photographer. Most days, you'll find me in mismatched socks and a top knot, working behind my computer with a smile on my face, listening to Zac Brown Band and R&B --or, dancing in the kitchen with my 3 littles and hunka husband, seeing who could come up with the coolest dance moves. I'm a wedding photographer, West Elm lover, aspiring advocate for our buddies with special needs, and a Certified Dreamer since 1986. We live in a cozy city in Southern California and are always up for a good adventure. I enjoy telling stories with my camera, grubbing on spicy food, and solving the latest Dateline case.
